Cambridge School of Art, Anglia Ruskin University Open Day - tomorrow 1. October

BA Photography students Amber Schormans and Olivia Rowbotham photograph Annabelle Williams' collection

Amber Schormans and Olivia Rowbotham recently photographed the collection of Fashion Designer Annabelle Williams, who graduated from the MA Fashion Design in 2016.

  

Amber says: "Photography and fashion are universal visual languages which influence us all, often even on a subconscious level. They are ever-changing movements which never fail surprise us. Being a part of these creative genres and producing contemporary and intriguing work is something that greatly interests me. Annabelle Wiliams' garments containing light and emitting different colours definitely stood out as a new concept. They are designed to embody a part of the spectrum of human emotion, this also coincides with my own goals as a portrait photographer to represent human nature."

Graduate Megan Lovell exhibits at Photokina

Megan Lovell, who graduated from the BA (Hons) Photography course this year, was the only British photographer to be honored in the UNICEF Photo of the Year 2015 competition, which was exhibited at Photokina, the world largest photographic fair.

 

 "The key is to realise your potential. That is when anything and everything is possible."

Megan says: "Being honoured in the UNICEF photo of the year 2015 was a fantastic surprise and left me feeling over the moon. Since finding out about the honourable mention, I had my photos shared on various websites including: UNICEF, Guardian, Cambridge News and more. 

Not only have my images being shared online they have been displayed in exhibitions. The first exhibition was in city hall, Meissen and the second at Photokina, Cologne. I felt pure excitement when I saw my work exhibited in one of the biggest photography festivals in the world. It made me realise what I photograph is important to share and I should not doubt myself as others will see the potential. 

The whole experience has boosted my confidence and motivated me to continue on my path. The key is to realise your potential. That is when anything and everything is possible."
 
The UNICEF Photo of the Year Awards recognise photos and photo series that depict the personality and living conditions of children worldwide in an outstanding manner.  The top prize was won by Georgi Licovski, a photographer with epa (European Pressphoto Agency), for his images of young refugees on the Greece-Macedonia border.

It’s implied that house ownership is a rite of passage much like starting a family or having a career. With the average wage in Cambridge around £28k, and the average house price apparently £420k, home ownership isn’t going to be a reality for anyone who isn’t already on the ladder. If you live in Cambridge, a mortgage for three times your salary will probably not secure you a flat or house. I wanted to explore how people live when they step away from society’s obsession with bricks and mortar, to investigate the alternatives to house ownership and see the lives people build in the unique places they live.
